Hello

My name is Dr. Adaeze Iroka. I am a licensed naturopathic doctor in Arizona, currently attending Grand Canyon University (GCU) to obtain my Master’s in Public Health. My educational background includes receiving my Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine in June 2021 at Sonoran University of Health Sciences in Tempe, Arizona, my Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from San Francisco State University (SFSU) in 2015, and my certificate in Holistic Health also from SFSU in 2016.

I use naturopathic principles and public health practices to empower my patients and help them achieve optimal health. I work with families struggling with chronic diseases, focusing on preventative approaches, using lifestyle recommendations, nutrition, nutraceuticals, herbal medicine, acupuncture, and homeopathy to create individualized treatments. My focus is finding the root cause of symptoms and using evidence-based medicine to formulate effective treatment plans.

Outside of school and work, I enjoy traveling to explore new places, gain experiences, and try new cuisines, and I love being a mom and spending time with family and friends. Some of my hobbies include cooking, gaming, solving puzzles such as Sudoku and Word Search, and blogging.

My Story

My mom's passing from breast cancer put me on the path toward becoming a naturopathic doctor. While undergoing cancer treatments, I spent a significant amount of time with her in the hospital, where I noticed the quality of care she received from her doctors and nurses and the type of food given. I observed how distant her doctors and nurses were and how her food lacked nutrition, which I believe, and felt at the time, negatively impacted her health outcome. That experience made me realize I wanted to become a healthcare professional and serve others differently. Two weeks after her passing, I attended San Francisco State University (SFSU), where I earned my bachelor's degree in biochemistry, planning to become a holistic pharmacist or a botanist.

During my academic experience, I took a public health course, which helped me learn the importance of health education and its impact on health outcomes. It also exposed me to holistic health. Luckily, SFSU had a strong holistic health program, and I went from minoring in the subject to becoming certified. The school also had a holistic health library where I spent numerous amounts of time reading books, volunteering, and getting involved in program activities, allowing me to learn about alternative treatment approaches. Through my research about natural health careers, I learned about naturopathic medicine. I researched more about the topic, resonated with its philosophy, and learned about the quality of care naturopathic doctors provide patients. I also admired that naturopathic doctors focus on the root causes of illnesses and combine Eastern and Western approaches to healing. Because I was extremely interested in the field, I started working towards becoming a naturopathic doctor.

In 2016, I attended Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, now known as Sonoran University of Health Sciences, in Tempe, Arizona. I learned many treatment modalities, such as botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, acupuncture, mind-body medicine, and more. Before attending school, my goal included owning a personal practice with a mission of keeping families healthy.
